Case It needed to be finished ridiculously quickly. But they succeeded. Over the course of nine weeks, N.C. Nielsen designed, manufactured and fitted a comprehensive shelving solution for DK Company A/S. The fashion business has built a large high-bay warehouse in Ikast and the shelving solution is now part of a dynamic warehouse where thousands of styles arrive every day – and ideally, need to be dispatched again at a rapid pace.

As the saying goes, time is money, and for DK Company, time is a great deal of money. This meant that the shelving solution needed to be in place in an extremely short space of time, so the company could continue to keep a continuous flow moving in and out of the warehouse. Every single day, DK Company dispatches between 40,000 and 60,000 garments to stores all around the world, and without an efficient warehouse logistics, revenue would plummet rapidly for the fashion business.

"We operate according to a fast fashion model, where new collections are delivered every month. We manage a number of fashion brands and send garments out to around 5,000 stores globally. It requires efficient logistics to handle this, and our new high-bay warehouse will help to optimise the flow still further," says Warehouse Manager Niels-Henrik Hagelskjær from DK Company A/S.

Room for growth

The warehouse at DK Company has a surface area of 11,500 square metres, is nine metres high and has six large gates with ramps. A steady stream of lorries arrives with incoming goods and drives quickly away again with pallets of fashion clothing. After a short stay at a distribution centre or direct dispatch, the garments are sent out to stores all over the world, often with time-slots right down to 15 minutes after arrival.

"We are very pleased with the shelving solution from N.C. Nielsen, which has saved us a lot of valuable time. We have prepared the business for future growth and our new warehouse reflects these growth plans. We're experiencing an increase in turnover and the new warehouse makes it possible to keep up with demand. The storage halls will also prepare us for increased automation and more robotic installations," says Niels-Henrik Hagelskjær.

Thousands of pallet spaces

N.C. Nielsen were offered the job, accepted it and in just a few hours, a shelving solution had been designed, prices calculated and orders placed from DK Company.  The ultra-short reaction time paid off at the other end, and after a whirlwind nine weeks of activity, a shiny new shelving solution with over 4,000 pallet spaces was ready at the grounds in Ikast. The shelves are divided into receipt/dispatch of goods, picking locations and bulk pallet spaces for filling.

"We like to support suppliers in our local area and chose N.C. Nielsen, as they could deliver a shelving solution in record time. They have acted professionally, ensured good project management, put together a strong team of fitters and handled a number of challenges from the fire department." says Warehouse Manager Niels-Henrik Hagelskjær from DK Company A/S.

AR Racking also on-board

N.C. Nielsen have collaborated with AR Racking, one of the world's leading manufacturers of storage systems. The close partnership has made it possible to deliver a complete shelving solution that will optimise the overall warehouse logistics at DK Company. The shelves are manufactured in Spain, the fitting team comes from the Czech Republic via an installation company and the project is managed by Key Account Manager Lars Kjærgaard Stenberg from N.C. Nielsen.

"I'm very pleased that we succeeded with the shelving solution. DK Company has now introduced the solution, with more than 180,000 pieces placed in stock in a matter of days from their old warehouse. What's more, they're also fully functional when it comes to receipt and delivery from the warehouse." says Lars Kjærgaard Stenberg, N.C. Nielsen.
