Case At the end of 2021 DB Schenker opened its new logistics centre in Taulov, comprising an office building and a 8,000-m2, covered cross-docking terminal – in addition to the 90,000 m2 driving area. With 85 gates and a constant stream of trucks, the terminal is an important link in the company's land transit both at home and abroad, from where the trucks can reach more than 430 European locations.

"For us, logistics is about ensuring high quality across all links in the value chain. We work meticulously to ensure quality from start to finish and have complete control on the goods from sender to receiver. Our new logistics centre reflects this philosophy and our flexible Terberg BC terminal tractor contributes towards optimising the internal logistics," says Niklas Dini, Terminal Manager at DB Schenker in Taulov.

The DB Schenker terminal is centrally placed at the motorway junction in Taulov, from where incoming and outgoing goods are received on thousands of pallets. From here, system freight and direct goods are distributed across land transport networks in Jutland, Funen and Europe with the help of 150 employees, of which 27 work in the terminal itself.

"Our terminal is built to handle pretty large goods numbers and we are constantly striving to optimise every detail of the logistics chain. So we're thrilled about our Terberg BC terminal tractor, which can handle both standard loose trailers, swap bodies and trailer hitches, so that lorry drivers can spend the most time possible out on the roads," continues Niklas Dini.

Accelerated startup

The new and sustainable logistics centre has been constructed in record time and is expected to be finished for DB Schenker's 150th anniversary in 2022. N.C. Nielsen got off to an early start, as DB Schenker had positive experiences with Terberg from their East Denmark branch in Hvidovre. DB Schenker had already ordered a Terberg BC in autumn 2021, but due to delays in the global supply chain, N.C. Nielsen could not guarantee a speedy delivery.

This problem was solved by offering DB Schenker a newer used model Terberg BC to start with. This was used during a transition period in the spring, and was then replaced in late summer 2022 with a brand-new, white-painted and high-tech Terberg BC (Body Carrier), which is registered with a licence plate so that it can be driven for refuelling to a local filling station.

"We have a positive and pragmatic communication with N.C. Nielsen, who have been able to meet our pressing needs. We have experienced a short reaction time, a serious level of commitment and a hands-on approach to getting our logistics in place. This enabled us to get up-and-running during the entire startup phase, and I look forward – also on behalf of the employees – to welcoming the Terberg as part of our machine fleet," says Niklas Dini.

Plenty of space

With an external terminal area of 90,000 m2, the Terberg has a large outdoor area to move around in front of the many gates. DB Schenker operates with high standards of safety and employees, truck drivers and visitors are in no doubt as to which areas they are allowed to walk and drive in. The working area for Terberg BC terminal tractor is thus optimised with rich opportunity for manoeuvring with loose trailers, swap bodies and trailers.

Terberg BC belongs to a series of multi-functional and environmentally friendly vehicles that can switch between three different transport tasks. On the same chassis, a frame for the swap body has been built in with a lifting capacity of 25,000 kg, along with a stool with a lifting capacity of 15,000 kg and a sturdy trailer hitch should there be a need to tow lorry trailers.

"We've enjoyed a fantastic cooperation with DB Schenker and I am very pleased that we have achieved our goals. We are willing to go to great lengths to succeed, and the temporary solution has now been replaced by a hardwearing Terberg BC solution that creates value for the terminal. It has been really exciting to take part as a supplier in the startup of a new terminal," says seller Lars Søgaard from N.C. Nielsen.
