Case N.C. Nielsen is the supplier of logistics machines to LEMAN, and the transport company's department in Taulov has now received 11 brand-new Linde machines with Lithium-ION batteries. The arrival of the new machines heralds new times for LEMAN where the terminals will operate using smart charging systems with focus on green energy.

To LEMAN, the green transition is a strategic choice for which the global logistics company implemented many initiatives to support environmental sustainability. The Taulov terminal is therefore equipped with energy-friendly LED lighting, a future warehouse extension has been planned with solar panels on the roof, and the entire LEMAN fleet of around 50 Linde machines will gradually be replaced with Lithium-ION models.

- We consider Linde with Lithium-ION batteries and the charging system an important part of our green transition. The new set-up contributes to reducing CO2 emissions, makes it possible to utilise capacity and enables a far more flexible day where we save man-hours and has no inconvenience with charging, says Johnny Bergmann, Cross Dock Manager, LEMAN.

The new charging system at LEMAN is the result of a major pilot project. An internal working group with LEMAN, external electricians and experts from N.C. Nielsen worked together to develop an advanced charging system that links 11 units of 200 amp charging stations (boosters) in a common charging system to supervise and monitor, displaying detailed information on screens.

Streamlined charging

With the charging system, LEMAN has streamlined the charging of the new Lithium-ION batteries. The many chargers at the terminal communicate in a coherent system where charging is constantly coordinated, for example to distribute power to the machines with the biggest need - which is essential to the combined productivity during weekly peak loads.

- We have an overview of the charging of the fleet thanks to a wonderful project process with N.C. Nielsen. We're able to closely monitor the charging and retrieve valuable information from the system. Our employees have also changed their behaviour and let the machines charge whenever there's a break, says Johnny Bergmann, Cross Dock Manager, LEMAN

LEMAN has a plan ready: In time, all terminals will have smart charging systems installed based on experience with the Taulov project. That is necessary for the required flexibility and to be able to adapt to the changing driving requirements at the busy LEMAN terminals where the Lithium-ION technology contributes to optimising energy consumption.

- We develop customised charging systems that consider infrastructure and physical surroundings. We establish a given number of charging stations at the company and link them with a smart monitoring system to keep the machine fleet constantly operational and effective. That provides maximum uptime, CO2 savings and lots of flexibility, says Per T. Nielsen, Technical Manager, N.C. Nielsen.
